MCP Server

Give your AI agent access to the Chelone registry through the shadcn MCP server.

The shadcn MCP server lets your AI agent browse the Chelone registry and add components to your project from a prompt.

This page covers React projects. For Vue, follow the Vue installation guide and keep its registry URL.

Prerequisites

Follow the React setup page to install the adapter and set up shadcn before connecting your agent.

Connect your client

From your project directory, run the command for your AI client.

Claude Code

npx shadcn@latest mcp init --client claude

Cursor

npx shadcn@latest mcp init --client cursor

VS Code

npx shadcn@latest mcp init --client vscode

Add the Chelone registry

For React projects, add @chelone under registries in your project's components.json, keeping the rest of your shadcn configuration and any existing registries:

components.json
{
  "registries": {
    "@chelone": "https://chelone.dev/r/{name}.json"
  }
}

Restart your AI client to load the MCP configuration, then enable the shadcn MCP server if your client asks.

Try a prompt

With the shadcn MCP server connected, ask your agent:

  • "show me all available components in the chelone registry"
  • "init this project using the chelone registry"
  • "create a new admin using the chelone registry and declare 3 resources in it: posts, comments and users"
